2021 Awards & Recognitions 66 Prior to serving as the COO, he served as the first Program Director of Garfield Place Apartments at PPCS. In that role he helped to facilitate the renovation of a hous- ing development designed for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. In addition to leveraging his skills as a clinician to build the program and hire all of the staff, he navigated the world of tax credits, housing vouchers, and special needs housing policy to successfully launch the program. Dr. Pearson hopes to use his leadership skillset and his occupational therapy lens to be an integral part of solving homelessness in the St. Louis region. Distinguished Fieldwork Educator Award Janice D. Hinds, MS, OTR/L, BCMH Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan Denver, Colorado Outstanding Fieldwork Educator: Compassionate, Authentic, Collaborative Advocate Janice Hinds is an occupational therapist at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan in Denver. In this capacity, she provides an abundance of clinical educa- tion opportunities collaborating with an interprofessional team to partner with clients with complex severe per- sistent mental illness (SPMI) on their journeys of recovery. Her person-centered, occupation-based OT perspective encompasses trauma-informed care, OT Intervention Process Model constructs, clinical reasoning, functional cognition, compassion, holding hope, and finding joy. She served as a founding OTA Program Director, and she seeks opportunities to mentor new practitioners in leader- ship roles. Ms. Hinds is a long-standing, active member of the Occupational Therapy Association of Colorado, having served in multiple leadership roles, and of AOTA, currently serving in the role of Recorder for the Represen- tative Assembly.
