Terms of Use for AOTA Press Ebooks

General

Purchasers of ebooks and other electronic content produced by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and AOTA Press are subject to the terms set forth in AOTA’s privacy policy and the terms of use governing AOTA’s websites.

The following additional terms and conditions apply to purchase of ebooks. By purchasing an ebook, purchasers acknowledge having read the terms and conditions and agree to be bound by them. This agreement is governed by and enforceable under applicable U.S. and Maryland state laws.

Purchase Policies

  1. Purchase of an ebook grants you, the purchaser, a nonexclusive license to access the ebook on the AOTA ebook platform. The license is for personal use and may not be transferred to another user.
  2. Ebooks cannot be returned, refunded, or exchanged; if you believe your circumstances warrant an exception, contact AOTA Customer Service by email or through the chat tool at the bottom right of the AOTA Customer Service page.
  3. If you experience technical difficulty in downloading or accessing a title, contact AOTA Customer Service by email or through the chat tool at the bottom right of the AOTA Customer Service page.

Usage Policies

  1. You may download and print portions of an ebook as needed for offline reading for personal use and reference.
  2. You may not do any of the following without express written permission of AOTA and/or AOTA Press:
  • Make an ebook or any portion of an ebook available on the Internet or other networks, resell an ebook, or use an ebook for commercial purposes
  • Distribute ebook content, in print or electronically, to groups (e.g., students in a class, individuals within clinics, organizations, or other groups of professionals); this includes posting ebook content on instructor, classroom, or university websites (e.g., Blackboard)
  • Alter any portion of an ebook.
  • Reproduce any portion of ebook content in other print or electronic publications, including personal or organizational websites.

However, authors of ebook content who want to use it in any of these ways should contact AOTA Press directly to discuss permissions.

  1. Reproduction of the contents of ebooks (e.g., photocopying or duplicating downloaded files) is expressly prohibited.
  2. You may not use an ebook on more than one device concurrently; make or distribute unauthorized copies of ebooks; or use, copy, modify, or transfer the ebook, in whole or in part, without permission from AOTA.
  3. You may not grant access to an ebook, in whole or in part, to any third party or sublicense, transfer, timeshare, or rent an ebook.
  4. The above conditions also apply to any audio, video, or other files that accompany the ebook.

Terms of Use

Purchase of an ebook grants you, the purchaser, a single, nontransferable license to access and read the purchased ebook on the AOTA ebook platform and download portions of the ebook as needed for offline reading. Network distribution of the ebook is expressly prohibited. The following additional terms apply: 

  • You are not authorized to grant access to any ebook, in whole or in part, to any third party or to sublicense, transfer, timeshare, or rent an ebook. 
  • You may print pages of your purchased ebook for personal use and reference.
  • You agree to protect your purchased ebook from unauthorized use, reproduction, or distribution.
  • You agree not to translate, decompile, or disassemble any ebook or to alter it in any way.
  • You agree to not remove, alter, or suppress any proprietary or copyright notices, disclaimers, digital watermarks, trademarks, onscreen notices, labels, or other marks.
  • You agree that you will not create derivative works based on the contents of any ebook or use the ebook’s contents in any way that would infringe the copyright.
  • You agree that you will not share your access credentials (user name and password) with other users. 

Copyright

AOTA ebooks are protected by copyright. Purchasers may not remove, delete, or transmit ebooks or create derivative works from them. No part of any ebook may be transmitted in any form or by any means, or reproduced for any purpose, without express permission of AOTA or as permitted in this license agreement or under applicable law. Consequences for violating any of the above policies may include any or all of the following:

  • Revocation of access to individual ebooks or to the AOTA ebook system
  • Ethics charges
  • Termination of AOTA membership
  • Legal proceedings.

Disclaimer

AOTA and AOTA Press ebooks are provided “as is,” without expressed or implied warranty of any kind, including (without limitation) warranties of accuracy, completeness, or suitability or fitness for a particular purpose. AOTA and AOTA Press provide no express or implied warranty of any kind for incidental losses or damages arising from the use of or the inability to use the ebook. Purchasers acknowledge that the use of AOTA ebooks is entirely at their own risk. The publisher makes no warranties as to continuous unlimited access to the licensed ebooks; internet service disruptions are inevitable and beyond the control of AOTA or AOTA Press. Technical difficulties that may arise with AOTA’s own equipment and networks will be resolved as quickly as possible.
