Abstract

Fieldwork education links education and practice and is a critical extension of occupational therapy curricula. Yet, despite its importance, the theory and practice fieldwork education has remained relatively free of research, theory, development, or training for those who direct the learning of students.

The chapters in this essential book, each of which offers several learning exercises, address these gaps in the occupational therapy knowledge base, providing a theoretical and philosophical framework, correcting myths, and forging a connection between the theory and practice of clinical education and supervision. For OT and OTA students, this book will encourage an active-learning experience. For new practitioners, the book will help identify a body of knowledge not learned in school. For fieldwork educators, this book will assist with self-assessment and encourage creating a professional development plan that will further refine supervision skills. For managers of practice settings, the book will provide a theoretical base for the administrative, supportive, and educational functions of clinical supervision.
